Over three hundred aspiring young hockey players descended on Edinburgh last week to take part in the Scottish hockey union national primary school festival.
Dunblane and Balfron clusters were part of 30 cluster teams representing 16 local authorities that took part in the festival held at the National hockey academy at the Peffermill sports grounds.
The aim of the festival was to encourage hockey activities to be organised at local level for young players with local authorities hosting festivals to determine which schools would participate in the flagship event at Scotland’s home of hockey at Peffermill.
Ailsa Robertson (Sports development officer) from Active Stirling congratulated all children participating from the Stirling area and commended the level of hockey on display at the festival.
She said: “This is the fourth year teams from Stirling have entered and the standard and skills shown by the children is improving each year.”
Both teams enjoyed the event, playing in round-robin leagues against teams from all over Scotland.
A special mention was given to Stirling’s top goal-scorer, Daniel McLaren who scored an outstanding eight goals throughout the day.
Active Stirling is offering hockey camps throughout the summer months in Callander, Balfron and Dunblane. Please contact Ailsa Robertson at mailto:
